U-PICK FAQs
When does U-Pick begin?
Our U-Pick blueberry season opens on July 7 and typically runs through early August, depending on the weather and the crop.
What are your hours?
We're open daily, 9am–Sunset, weather permitting. Always check our Instagram or email justin@northstarfarm.com before visiting if storms are in the forecast.
Do I need to bring anything?
We provide picking buckets, but feel free to bring:
A hat and sunscreen
Closed-toe shoes
A reusable water bottle
A blanket or camp chairs if you want to picnic
How much does it cost?
Blueberries are $20 for a small bucket (holds 3 lbs.), $30 for a large bucket (holds 6 lbs.). You take them home to snack, bake, or freeze.
Can I bring my kids?
Absolutely! U-Pick is family-friendly and perfect for all ages. We ask that children are supervised at all times and taught to harvest with care and respect.
Can I bring my dog?
We love animals—but to protect our blueberry bushes, sheep, and other guests, we do not allow pets on the farm. Thank you for understanding and helping us keep the fields safe, clean, and peaceful for everyone (especially the sheep).
Are your blueberries organic?
Yes! Our bushes are grown without sprays or synthetic inputs and certified organic by NOFA-NY. We practice low-intervention, regenerative methods that protect the health of the land, pollinators, and you.
What if it rains?
We close the fields for rain and wet conditions to protect the plants and pathways. Follow us on Instagram @thenorthstarfarm for weather updates.
What does "harvest with respect" mean?
At North Star Farm, we believe in reciprocity with the land. Before you pick, we invite you to pause and thank the plant. Only take what you need, walk gently, and treat the field as a living being—not a factory.
How do I know which berries to pick?
Look for deep blue berries that fall easily into your hand. If it resists, it's not ready. Taste one. Smile. Repeat.
